The subject of free will vs. fate or destiny has raged for centuries. Do we have the power to decide exactly what will happen? Or is there a 'master plan' and we are but helpless pawns in the Game of Life? In a sense, both are true.
We are Creators of reality who may be sleeping or just avoiding the issue. We are spiritual beings who decided to incarnate (be born) onto this plane of reality and experience certain things and learn certain lessons before we die and ascend back Home. There was much planning that was done well before this life was begun. Where you decided what lessons to learn at what phase of your life. The people you would meet, the children you would have, and with whom. The family you would be born into. The friends you'd have growing up. The job you'd hold and even what books would suddenly appear at certain times in your life. A lot of planning. But you were the one who planned it. You had final say. You free will was already working before this birth.
Certain things were locked in as absolute and "definitely have to happen no matter what" while others were a bit fuzzier and allowed for last minute decisions during the lifetime. Those "definite" things have more strength and so are taken as fate or destiny. You were 'meant' to meet this person, or have that accident, or to be born with this problem. That isn't some impersonal being who goes "zap", tough luck buddy. This was your own decision.
Why would you decide to have an accident? To be born blind? Or in a country with no food? Or war? Why would we inflict these things upon ourselves and then willingly be born into them knowing what is to come? There is only one logical answer - that the benefits gained from the experience outweigh the pain and suffering that occurs during it. That whatever we get out of it is of such value and worth that we would go through these things. So it must be pretty massive.
The answer is - enlightenment. That word has been bandied around and used and made fun of so much in the last 20 years that it now is often regarded as a joke by the general public. However the reality if that enlightenment is a process, a journey, and not a sudden step up and "oh I'm enlightened now" as opposed to not. We are all on this journey, this process to develop, to learn, to become more wise, more advanced. Each lifetime is uniquely crafted to make sure that this happens for us all.
Sure we can decide to wander off the rails or to push against 'fate'. We may yell at the gods and say life isn't fair. We may choose to sit and wallow in our own self pity. It's our call. But maybe if you remember that you are the one who decided all this in the first place then fate won't seem like an evil or hateful energy that is battling us. Instead it is ourself wishing to develop, grow and learn. We only learn well and quicker through adversity and hardship. After all when everything goes well we tend to become lazy and relax, doing nothing and learning nothing. We stagnate. In World War 2 more technological advancement was made than had occurred during the previous 100 years of peace (in between wars). Humans learn through adversity, through strife. When we have learned all the lessons we have to we leave this life. Many will leave with lessons unlearned. And so they will return until they are all taught, until they are all learned. So if you have a problem that keeps reoccurring, maybe you haven't learnt that particular lesson yet. These trials are sent to make sure we don't stagnate and get stuck in our development.
It certainly is a different way of looking at things. Just assume what this article says is true for one week. Every problem or adversity or annoying person is an opportunity to learn and grow. So what is the lesson? What is the growth? Why did you decide to let that happen? You may find some fascinating answers within.
All the best,
Love and Light,
Ozq
